I am quite confused… I am not even trying to hide that, I don’t know anymore whether I can still do the artist nowadays or should I try to be somehow a mix between a medium level artist and a high performant influencer?
I was one of the first people who created their own computer buying piece by piece and configure them together, I was a beginner level hacker ages ago and I was one of the first ones to create an account on Facebook. Now I have Instagram, Tik Tok and BeReal. I love all that stuff!
Honestly, I enjoy using what internet offers and I find it quite amazing: We are all connected. BUT but but there’s always a but; I don’t find all of that matching with my other part as an artist.
Observing the most important artists accounts I found on the web I became more doubting; most of the artists on line have talent, but they are somehow controlling their creativity to follow the trends and a few of them are so good that they don’t really do themselves anything on their accounts.
I am not going to mention even the third category “who imagine that they’re artists” that will need pages and pages.
There’s a big gap; you can find a followed artist who makes only small teeny weeny art works or this sketchbook thing to follow up with these frenetic requests to post and post and post. There’s no space for real artistic progress, there’s no time to elaborate what the artist is creating properly, there’s no time to prepare your colors in order to have a high quality work and there’s not time even for your layers to dry. It’s impossible.
For sure there are many successful artists on social media, but they have their paid social media managers to do the dirty work for them. Some artists put on clothes during their photo shooting as if they’re playing a Shakespeare role. When I paint I’m in some kind of trance mood, so the last thing that I will care about is my costume. That’s why I find everything is confusing.
Social media is amazing and on my “non artistic” accounts I enjoy everything from dancing on Tik Tok’s trends to filming my beauty routine, but on my art account I have no chance to post my artistic routine 🙂
